Bara Bhanghal Trek - Tempest Treks

Bara Bhangal trek is one of the challenging treks in Himachal Pradesh .It is a premier Himalayan Trek on Shepherd Trail, having to cross two passes at an altitude close to 5000 m, the trek demands endurance and prior experience on the traveler to enjoy a long journey to the remote village of Bara Bhangal. The trek begins from the Hidimba temple in the town of Manali. A steep ascent through thick alpine forests and one reaches the campsite at Lamadug. The Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges break out in the horizon at this height. The path continues through the rhododendron and pine forests to the next camp at Riyali Thach. The next day brings one to the campsite at the base of the Kalihani pass. Magnificient views of Deo Tibba, Indrasan and Indrakila can be had from here. The crossing of the Kalihani Pass at an altitude of approximately 4800 m is a tricky negotiation through ice, snow on glacier, and moraine. A small and beautiful glacial lake waits on the descent of the pass. The trek downwards meets the tree line again. Crossing several streams, one reaches Bara Bhangal, one of the remotest villages in India. The trek continues onwards to the Thamsar pass at an altitude of about 4600 m with a stopover at Murh. The descent then continues to Plachak, Rajgundha and then to Billing. Billing is famous for paragliding adventure sport activities. The uncertain weather and the ascent and descent of two passes at high altitude test the endurance and will power of the traveler even though the trek is fairly non-technical. The village of Bara Bhangal is one of the few areas in the country that has been relatively untouched by the vagaries of globalization. The village however boasts of a primary school and electricity

Weather : In Moonsoon time the temperature is 20 Degrees in Day time and In evening temperature drops to 9-10 degrees. At the top of the passes Temperature is 2-3degrees only and if the weather is cloudy it can drop to 0 degrees.

Preparation : You must have done few treks before of Altitude 4000-4500 metres. You should have good physical fitness and carrying weight capacity at least 12 kgs in your backpack .It will keep you in good endurance. Walking long distances walk upto 12–15 kms is also required.

Day 01 :

Arrive Manali

On arrival at Manali Volvo stand meet our guide and transfer to hotel and check in. the day is for relax, later in the afternoon take a short walk to Hadimba Devi Temple, Old Manali Manu Rishi temple and then back to hotel. By evening one can roam on the Mall Road. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 02 :

Manali – Lama Dugh (3017m)

In the morning after breakfast, we will leave for Lama Dugh, which is about 4 hour journey. On the way, we will be climbing through thick forests. As we gain height in the steep climb, we can witness the distinct views of different faces of Indrasan, Deo Tibba and peaks of Bara Shingri glacier open up. In the last lag, the path turns to the right and one traverses the ridge horizontally and enters the campsite on an alpine plateau studded with thick growth of alpine flowers. Enjoy an overnight stay in the camp.

Day 03 :

Lama Dugh – Riyali Thach (3400m)

After breakfast in the morning, we will leave from Lama Dugh to visit Riyali Thach, which is about 3 hour journey. The trek is through steep a ridge below Khand Pari Tibba (4000m). From this point, one can witness a magnificent view of Manali, located on the left bank of River Beas and the whole upper Kullu valley that appears swathed in the varied colors of the season. An overnight camp stay in Riyali Thach

Day 04 :

Riyali Thach – Base of Kalihani Pass (4010m)

Today, we will proceed for Base of Kalihani Pass, which is located at a height of 4800m. The trail will proceeds over open meadows initially followed by a steep descent to a stream. After crossing it, the path continues in a steep climb for about three hours till you arrive at the camp at the base of the Kalihani Pass. You can catch the beautiful views of Deo Tibba and Indrasan peaks from the campsite. Take pleasure of an overnight stay in the camp

Day 05 :

To Kalihani pass(4845 metres) and other side base.

After breakfast in the morning, we will proceed for trekking to Kalihani Pass. It will about 8 hour long journey. While following this trek, we will have a steep climb to the pass crossing a stretch of scree, a moraine and the Kalihani glacier. Take time off at the pass to get a splendid 360 degree view of hanging glaciers, the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges. A steep descent across another glacier and four beautiful glacial lakes will take you to the camp

Day 06 :

Devi ki Marhi (3850m)

Trek to the Gaddi campsite of Devi ki Marhi. Enjoy an overnight stay at the camp in Devi ki Marhi

Day 07 :

Devi Ki Marhi – Dal Marhi (3900m)

Today after breakfast in the morning, we will move from Devi ki Marhi to Dal Marh, which is about 6 hours long journey. The trail first crosses over the Kalihani Nullah and descends into the oak and birch forests. Thereafter, most of the path is flat with few ups and downs. Just before the end of day through a steep climb before you will arrive at the Dal Marhi campsite and have an exclusive overnight camp stay.

Day 08 :

Dal Marhi – Bara Bhangal (2882m)

In the morning after breakfast, we will proceed to visit Bara Bhangal, which is again 6 hours journey. The trail now continues down the Ravi river into the deodar forest, to the only large village in the valley, Bara Bhangal. Enjoy an overnight in tents/camp in Bara Bhangal.

Day 09 :

Bara Bhangal – Marhi (3830m)

Today, we will start climbing towards the next big pass, Thamsar. The trail will take about 5 hours to reach the destination and winds up through pine, deodar and birch forests with mountain streams to break the monotony. Our campsite is located at Marhi which is near the base of the Thamsar glacier. An overnight stay in camp at Marhi.

Day 10 :

Marhi – Panhartu (3200m) via Thamsar Pass (4700m)

In the morning after breakfast, we will set for another day of steep ascent over moraine, scree and glacier. The climb is broken by a small lake just below the pass. From on top of Thamsar, we will get the first glimpse of the Kangra valley. On the other side of the pass, it is a steep, long descent till we reach the campsite at . Enjoy an overnight camp stay.

Day 11 :

Panhartu – Rajgundha

After breakfast in the morning, we will proceed to Rajgundha.Reaching Rajgundha Take Cab to Bir, And end of the Trek
